Elevating Wayfinding with Cadillac Fairview

Cadillac Fairview is one of the largest developers of office, retail and mixed-use properties in North America, owning developments such as CF Toronto Eaton Centre, Toronto-Dominion Centre and CF Shops at Don Mills. Cygnus has worked with Cadillac Fairview on a variety of developments across Canada providing signage, wayfinding, brand application, and placemaking services that are consistent with the building designs and brand strategy. Our portfolio of work spans across prominent retail environments, large office towers, and CF’s mixed-used properties. 

16 York

16 York is a 33-storey, 870,000 sq ft office tower located at the heart of Toronto’s downtown core. Cygnus led the design of all wayfinding elements including exterior, interior, and parkade signage as well as the design of two exterior tenant pylons.

Calgary City Centre

Opened in 2016, Calgary City Centre remains one of Cadillac Fairview’s premier developments in the Calgary core. The 34-storey tower and underground parkade is immediately adjacent to the Bow River parkway system and linked to the Plus 15 walkway via two bridge connections. Cygnus worked with Cadillac Fairview to provide wayfinding services including interior wayfinding, parkade, and the exterior pylon. 

CF Toronto Eaton Centre

One of the most prominent retail spaces in all of Canada, CF Toronto Eaton Centre is home to over 250 retailers, restaurants and services, making it downtown Toronto’s most prominent shopping centre. Cygnus was asked to assist CF in creating a Guest Services sign that would inform visitors of the location and better attract them to the area. As a result, Cygnus suggested and further designed an entire ceiling structure to define the area and carry the messaging—an integrated sign approach. We have also worked on elevator directories, and a concept for the new signage program for the parkade.

CF Chinook Centre

Located in Calgary, CF Chinook Centre is home to over 250 retailers, flagship stores, and is known as Calgary’s premier shopping centre. Cygnus was brought on to design exterior pylons and parkade entrance signage to mark the entrances of the mall and guide visitors to their desired parking destinations. Cygnus also designed the interior signage program as well as recent updates to direct to the new anchor tenant, Saks Fifth Avenue.

CF Pacific Centre

CF Pacific Centre is the largest shopping mall in Vancouver. The mall is connected to the Hudson’s Bay department store, Canada Line network, the 725 Granville office tower, and the former Four Seasons Hotel. Cygnus developed a wayfinding program and signage system for CF Pacific Centre parkade that supports effective user navigation while promoting features within the site’s interior and exterior design.

CF Shops at Don Mills

CF Shops at Don Mills is a lifestyle centre located in Toronto with 72 retail stores and a total floor space of 511,824 sq ft. Cygnus created branded site signage including exterior building signs, street banners, dimensional lettering, parkade entry signage and digital parking pylons. As part of the multi-million dollar renovation, Cygnus designed large gateway markers to brand the primary entry/exit points, and to demark the site’s boundaries from sightlines within the property. The gateway structures were custom designed and feature the intricate brand pattern tied into many elements throughout the site.

CF Sherway Gardens

Home to over 190 top retailers, Sherway Gardens is located west of downtown Toronto in Etobicoke. Cygnus designed directional pylon signage for the exterior of the Sherway Gardens mall, branding the area and increasing recognition of the mall from inside and outside the site boundaries. More recently, we were asked to look into the wayfinding master plan, and will be working closely with CF to establish new signage and wayfinding in the coming years.
