Essential Information, Clearly Delivered
This signage system reduces visual clutter across some of British Columbia’s most scenic and ecologically sensitive environments. Layouts focus on essential information, allowing users to quickly understand directions, regulations, or critical safety messages. Human-centred design principles determine hierarchy, scale, and placement to ensure legibility without competing with the surrounding landscape. A flexible range of mounting options, including kiosks, posts, and trailheads, supports consistent application while adapting to the varied terrain of each park.

Existing Signage System
Informed by Field and Practice
The team reviewed existing signage across multiple park sites, assessing materials, messaging, condition, and compliance. Field audits and a procurement analysis revealed patterns in vendor practices, fabrication methods, and regional variability. These findings informed a set of practical, scalable recommendations that grounded the new signage system in real operational needs.

Guidelines for Consistent Delivery
The manual provides a complete framework for signage execution, including graphic assets, pictogram usage, and panel specifications. Detailed placement guidelines define clear zones for signage and address both vehicular and pedestrian contexts. The manual serves as a long-term reference that supports consistency while allowing for informed customization.

Online Sign Standards
Cygnus’ proprietary digital platform allows park staff and approved vendors to generate site-specific signage using standardized templates. With more than 100 active users across British Columbia and over 25 orders placed monthly, the system supports everything from individual signs to full park renovations. Pictograms, messaging, and fabrication-ready files can be downloaded on demand, reducing manual oversight while ensuring compliance and consistency. The platform enables faster turnaround, maintains version control, and provides operational autonomy at the local level.
