Designing for a Better Future

Design Approach
Every material choice sets a chain of impact in motion. Long before signage is installed, the environmental footprint has already begun through the materials selected, how they’re sourced, and the systems designed to support them.
Consider
Finishes and substrates are carefully selected to balance performance, aesthetics, and environmental impact. Recycled and recyclable materials are selected where possible, reliance on toxic coatings or paints is reduced, and surface aging is considered in real-world conditions. In harsh climates or sensitive locations, composites or printed finishes provide durability without compromising visual integrity. Local and regional sourcing, when feasible, reduces transport emissions and strengthens alignment with place.
Reduce
Every sign is evaluated for purpose, placement, and impact. Over-signing is avoided, with elements placed where they support the overall wayfinding system. Installation methods are selected to minimize site disturbance, particularly in ecologically sensitive or landscaped areas, using screw piles or lightweight footings in place of traditional concrete bases.
Preserve
We see existing structures and heritage elements as an opportunity for re-use, reducing waste and building upon the character already present. Whether refurbishing a brick base or mounting signage to existing infrastructure, this approach reduces the need for new materials, avoids unnecessary construction, and lowers project costs. It respects context and supports the continuity of place.
Endure
Well-designed systems last. We create sign programs that are flexible and built to evolve. Designed to anticipate new conditions, messaging requirements, and programming changes, it minimizes the need for redesign and replacement later. This longevity reduces waste and operational costs over time. Climate exposure, long-term maintenance, and infrastructure compatibility are considered from the outset because sustainable systems are those that keep working year after year.
