Project Background
Bringing precision and empathy to the wayfinding system at Vancouver’s newest health campus.
New St. Paul’s Hospital is one of the most significant healthcare infrastructure projects in British Columbia. As the anchor of the Jim Pattison Medical Campus, the 548-bed facility is part of a multi-block redevelopment that includes research, outpatient care, public amenities, and commercial space. Cygnus was brought in early to lead the development of a signage and wayfinding strategy that could adapt alongside evolving design and stakeholder input. The strategy was designed to shape architectural planning, support regulatory approvals, and guide how people interact with the site. Informed by our Carefinding™ methodology, the approach centers on empathy for end-users and responds to the complex realities of an inner-city, acute care environment. As the project moved into implementation, our role evolved into compliance oversight to ensure consistency, clarity, and long-term performance. This work lays the foundation for a clear, intuitive environment where patients, staff, and visitors can navigate with confidence, supporting efficient operations, reducing stress, and enhancing the overall care experience from arrival to discharge.
