User journey analysis
The project initiated with a spatial audit of the master-planned development to map and define primary user journeys across the high-density site. Cygnus analyzed the complex structural intersections where the retail podium, parking facilities, and residential towers converge, establishing a logical framework to coordinate multi-modal circulation. By partitioning the site into distinct geographic zones and establishing a clear hierarchy for pedestrian nodes and vehicular decision points, this master-planned approach ensures a seamless transition between public arterials and core destinations. This foundational analysis provided the structured spatial insights from which the signage strategy was built.

Elevating the retail journey
Cygnus designed an interior wayfinding system for CF Richmond Centre to organize and optimize circulation across the 700,000 square foot retail space. Engineered to complement a premium shopping experience, the system utilizes a clear visual hierarchy to guide visitors efficiently toward primary destinations, transit hubs, and anchor tenants.
Suspended directionals streamline movement through a tiered layout. Primary destinations are indicated on a black level and anchor tenants on a white level, allowing for flexibility as tenants change. Minimal column markers provide localized guidance at critical decision points. Together, these components ensure intuitive navigation while preserving open sightlines across the environment.
Unified visual language
The wayfinding system utilizes a refined design language to complement the modern architecture of this premier redevelopment. Shared materials, colour palette, patterns, and typography across the residential and retail sectors translate this aesthetic throughout the 27-acre master plan, clarifying navigation while serving as a distinctive touchpoint for the CF Richmond Centre brand.
Parking integration
As the first and last touchpoint of a mixed-use development, the parkade establishes a welcoming and intuitive environment for residents and visitors. For CF Richmond Centre, this arrival zone was designed as a foundational element of an elevated, end-to-end experience.
Illuminated identification signage at vehicular and pedestrian entrances establish a premium sense of arrival. Within the parkade, circulation is optimized through a cohesive application of large-scale wall graphics, functional colour coding, illuminated suspended directionals, and a structured column grid. This integrated system allows drivers to orient themselves quickly, facilitating efficient navigation to parking spaces near preferred retail and residential access points.
